Curator, writer and editor, Lara Strongman is the judge for the 2010 COCA Anthony Harper Award for Contemporary Art. The former Deputy Director/Senior Curator at City Gallery Wellington has researched and published extensively on contemporary New Zealand art over the past 15 years. In 2000, she was a contributing curator to Parihaka: The Art of Passive Resistance and in 2003, curated a survey exhibition of Shane Cotton’s work (1993-2003). She also co-edited Contemporary New Zealand Photographers which won the illustrative section at the 2006 Montana Book Award.
In 2009 COCA Gallery received more than 550 submissions from throughout New Zealand for this annual arts award with the winning entry receiving $10,000. In 2010 the exhibition period will be extended to six weeks to accommodate the increasing public interest.
The winner of the 2010 COCA Anthony Harper Award for Contemporary Art will be announced at the gallery Tuesday 25 May and the exhibition will be held from 26 May to 3 July.
