Breaking Reflection, Interior/Exterior
'Breaking Reflection, Interior/Exterior' is a two-part site-specific mural for CoCA by Ōtautahi artist and designer Nick Lowry
Two walls, one in CoCA’s courtyard, and the other inside Lux Espresso, form the canvas for creative expression.
The artist used photos taken of the hard edge details from Ōtautahi Brutalist architecture, including our iconic CoCA building, to inform his design. He simplified and collaged photos to create the courtyard mural, while the interior mural is an abstraction of the exterior design.
By layering colour, and using a variety of techniques, the artist has created texture and movement, which enriches the design, and makes a striking statement.
Nick selected four Resene colours: black, white, Endeavour (clear bold blue), and Havoc (pure chromatic red) to execute his design.
