‘Applesauce’ is an exploration by Clint Park (Porta) around making something out of nothing.

During an argument, with the realisation that it had started from a matter that wasn’t important (applesauce), the subject became something in itself – much like Park’s artistic practice.

Using found materials that others would consider rubbish, and making stencils from repurposed objects like manila folders, Park collects components over time and often stores them for the right moment to use.

Drawing inspiration from his surroundings living by the beach in New Brighton, Park is strongly influenced by graffiti art as is evident in the stencil work in this show. He considers his practice a ‘selfish process’, thinking “what would i like to see?”, enjoying the idea of the piece coming to life and hoping that others enjoy viewing the final piece as much.

The Artist

Clint Park (Porta) has always lived in Christchurch, currently by the beach in New Brighton. He has enjoyed art since he was little and graffiti art has always interested him. These days he mostly does stencil art but also dabbles in other styles, vinyl cuts and handmade stickers. His influences range from skateboarding to old movies and random things he sees or thinks of that tickle his fancy.
