Call for Proposals

The Call for Proposals 2025-2026 is now closed.

Ōtautahi’s Toi Moroki Centre of Contemporary Art is proud to announce our second annual Call for Proposals. This Call is for an exhibition programme of works beginning in March 2025. As of 2023, CoCA is programmed by a voluntary group of Waitaha-based art practitioners. Currently, with the Canterbury Museum in residence in the upstairs gallery, the downstairs Ō Papa Gallery is the main CoCA exhibition space.

We are committed to presenting and supporting a diverse range of art practices and discourses both within and without the gallery. We are working to encourage and nurture Te Waipounamu and in particular Waitaha-based artists, and also to contribute and connect to a wider arts ecology across the motu.

We encourage applications from artists, collectives, community groups, curators, and writers with proposals for an exhibition or ideas for public programming for the Ō Papa gallery. We are also interested in applications for off-site proposals.

We can offer some curatorial guidance, technical assistance, promotional and logistical support, exhibition-led public programming, a contribution towards production costs, and artist fees in alignment with Arts Makers Aotearoa guidelines.

Proposals are accepted in different formats. It’s important to us that this process is accessible. Please contact the gallery if you have difficulty with accessibility for this process.

Proposals should include:

An outline of your project either in writing (500 words maximum), or as an audio/audiovisual file (maximum five minutes long).
Where appropriate, one visual representation of the concept.
Examples of previous work (maximum 10 images).
Artist biography or CV (maximum of 2-pages).
A budget - please use the budget template provided: Artist Budget template (please download and make a copy for your own use)
Any specific technical requirements.
A project timeline.
Please label all files and images clearly with your name and project title, for example: “A.Smith PaintingShow”
Please send proposals to: proposals@coca.org.nz with the subject line ‘Call for Proposals’.

Proposals are due by 11.59pm, Sunday 07 April 2024

We will aim to notify the outcome of your proposal within four weeks of the closing date and can provide feedback if requested.

All proposals received will be kept confidential.
